The Easton Arts Trail: Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 June 2008

What a fantastic weekend! The rain held off on Saturday, which was great considering the severe flood warnings the Met Office had been issuing. Sunday was beautiful, the sun shone and the visitors came out in their hundreds.

Lots of venues reported a massive 100% increase in visitors over last year, which is excellent news. The Preview at the ECC on Friday night had a great turn out and the exhibition looked fantastic. Congratulations to Lisa Furness and her team for coordinating an excellent exhibition and to Amy Sinclair at her team and the ECC for being so accommodating and for decorating the centre.

We’d love to hear what you think about the arts trail so we have set up a FORUM/Message Board where you can leave your comments. We would like to see your photographs of the event too, so please forward yours to info@eastonartstrail.co.uk. We’ll post the best photographs on this website.

This year more than 35 venues and over 100 artists, makers and performers took part in this dazzling celebration of Easton’s creativity. You can still find out who took part and where by visiting Artists & Performers.

The 12 temporary, site-specific installations, interactions and spin art workshop sited along the Bristol to Bath cycle path between the Whitehall Road junction and the Gratitude Road slipway were a real success, tempting cycle path users to pick up maps from our stewards so they could visit some of the other arts trail venues. You can still find out more about these installations and the artists and performers who created them by visiting New For 2008.

The Easton Community Choir went down a treat when they performed to an enthusiastic crowd at the end of Gratitude Road on Saturday afternoon. They sang fabulous songs from around the world including Gospel, African, Folk and Pop in four part harmonies. If you were inspired by their performance and you’d like to join the choir, they are open to complete beginners, no auditions, no music to read, just call Sheila Tang on 0117 965 8485 to find out more.

If you visited Easton over the arts trail weekend you can’t have missed seeing our vibrant creative community at its very best. Thanks to everyone involved in making 2008 the best Easton Arts Trail yet, especially our neighbors, friends and family for coming out to support us over the weekend. Here’s to 2009!
